Cranmere Pool plod
Up and early out to High Down to catch the big skies before the cloud bubbled up. There were already a couple of cars in the car park which is unusual given the early mid-week start. Off up the Dick's Well track, round the Dunna Goats, onto the Rattlebrook peat track and up to Kitty Tor. From there it was down the wonderful ring rock track for a while before curving off to Great Kneeset where this photo was taken.
A short tussock-hop away is Cranmere Pool where I signed the visitors' book before bounding through the bog to Black Ridge. I don't know if this is technically the most romote spot on Dartmoor but it feels like it sometimes.
Slightly surreal terrain with a slightly surreal collie
From there it was up and over Amicombe Hill, my original plan being scuppered by firing on the Willsworthy range and back down the track to Brat Tor for a good downhill blast. Under 3 hours all told with plenty of stopping for photos and drinking in the big skies.................

That sounds like a good one - can't beat a run like that
ReplyDeleteWas good to get out for a longish one - saw nobody all day and the silence was stunning. Even the skylarks had a day off!
ReplyDeleteThose skies certainly are sublime...
ReplyDeleteDartmoor skies are pretty hard to beat.
ReplyDeleteBecause it's mostly flat there's nothing to get in the way so the skies seem bigger than in other areas with proper hills.
WITC is knocked flat by the photography again 4 Winds. We only have a cat, and it doesn't lend itself to photos of peat hag. Although, that truly would be surreal...
ReplyDeletelooks like the stuff of magic mushrooms..great shot
ReplyDeleteQuite an atmosheric spot up there - very quiet as the wind died away.
