All The Young Dudes

Another scorchio couple of Ten Tors training days on the south moor. Starting and finishing at Princetown the routes took us to Ter Hill and Venford Reservoir followed by a bit of micro-nav around Black Tor and Crazy Well Pool. The second day saw us trooping up to North Hessary Tor before striking off into the nether regions of the south moor with visits to Down Tor, Ditsworthy Warren and Higher Hartor.

After a stomp from Belstone to Bellever the weekend after next and a bit of micro nav/campcraft/kit packing/teamwork on the Sunday all that remains is to make the final team selection and look forward to the event itself. Team selection won't be easy as we're over-subscribed and I wouldn't fancy the job given the high level of commitment and ability we've got this year.

  1. do you run the event paul or train folk for it?

  2. A bit of both! The event is just for 14 - 19 year olds, although one year a team of blokes who'd done Ten Tors in their youth can back to give it a crack. I usually get a few miles in running from checkpoint to checkpoint in training. We quickly get to the stage when supervision gets more and more remote which means less waiting and more running :-)

  3. This sounds like a great event. I wouldn't want the job of picking either, a hard spot.

  4. We've got another two days' training to go so hopefully we'll see the shape of the teams after that.

Looks like you had a cracking day for it.

  6. We've got two 35 mile teams, a 45 mile team and a 55 mile team as we train two combined centres. The 55s and the 45s don't need much supervision which leaves the two 35s for my mate and me to look after. This weekend the supervision will be remote, so they won't know we're there except when we magically appear at checkpoints. Should get a good run in at the same time :-)
