Up the Hill Backwards.
The last long run before the 50 saw yours truly and Spook the wonder dog heading out from Postbridge for a 30 miler taking in sundry lumpy bits on the way.
Seriously hot and got a cracking pair of 2-tone legs for my trouble. We stopped for a drinks refill near Kit Rocks on the East Dart. I don't mind peaty, but this had bits in it so after straining it through my sock I chucked a puritab in and set off. About 100 yards later the breeze brought the unmistakable aroma of a well-rotted cow carcase in the river, so I ditched the drink and headed a bit further upstream to try my luck again.
After whistlestop visits to High Willhays, Yes Tor and Cosdon we were on the return leg via a few other tors before heading for Sittaford and the run in to Postbridge.
Lessons of the day: Don't drink lumpy water. Don't try to show off in front of walkers at the start of a long run by blasting up the first hill. Take mini-cheddars as well as jelly babies. Enjoy.
