hot foot to Fur tor

Supposedly Dartmoor's most remote tor, Fur Tor is a mere 45 minute pad from Bagtor Gate. After a bit of an incline up to Lynch Tor it's pretty much flat but wiry little heathery things meant on with the mincers for nearly all of the run.
Fur Tor's quite a handsome pile of granite with lovely views on a good day. There were signs up warning of nesting ravens which made for a handy 'tripod'. To the pedants (of which we have a few down here....hi Shamus!) this should be Vur Tor although few, if any, of the names which appear on the OS are original or authentic. In fact, 'Vur Tor' is just the second to last name in a long line.
This was the longest bf/mincers run to date - everything ok so far although the balls of my feet took a battering on the army track.
Gorgeous skies

  3. Hi there, I'm in Somerset, just starting out on barefoot running. What kind of distances are you doing barefoot? Or, how much time are you spending on each run? (Incidentally, I got married in the Dartmoor Training Center near Two Bridges last March).

  4. Hi Rob. Cracking venue - wish I'd thought of that! I run every other day at the moment, usually around the 10km mark on each one and up to now, only on Dartmoor. These tend to be a bit slower than in fell-shoes, but not much at about an hour. I get the odd ding and scrape (goes with the territory)and the days off give it time to heal.
Hope this is useful - just chip in if there's anything else you want to know :-)

  5. Cool. It was a great venue for the wedding - especially with a 9 piece skiffle band (The Glitzy Bag Hags). I'm trying to run shorter distances (about 4k at the moment) every day because this is the only way I can maintain consistency, especially working shifts. Running in Vivobarefoot Evos and barefoot when the mood takes me. Have you found Barefoot Ted's huarache's google group? Lots of interesting barefoot and minimalist stuff on there. I'm quite jealous that you get to run on the moors so regularly. Good to meet you

  6. Superb name for a band - would go to see them on that basis alone!

A little and often seems to be the way to go - I've heard horror stories about folk not taking it steady at first.

Had a look at Ted's website - looks easier to use than Barefoot Bob's so will probably chip in.

Give us a shout if you fancy a run on the moor!
