Inspired by Methuselah's kitless exploits, I thought it was high time to ditch all of the kit and do a run on the moor. Carrying only my car keys, Spook's lead and a camera it was off for a blast to Langstone Moor stone circle from Pork Hill car park. Barefoot, of course without mincers or monkey feet as backup.
It felt cool to be kitless, although I must admit it took a few minutes to get used to not having a mobile (how did we ever survive back in the day?!)
Will be doing more, although it will take a bit of planning to avoid sweary bits.
Good stuff - and what's more, a much better photo of the runner than came out of my kitless exploits at the weekend!
ReplyDeleteI think I was just lucky, there. I put on a 10 second timer which meant I had to hold a smile for all of about 4 seconds - a bit of a challenge for me :-)
ReplyDeleteBloody irresponsible! You will be hillwalking wearing jeans and trainers next. rant rant....;)
ReplyDeleteHa ha! feels good to run with nowt. At least the walkers down here keep the kit shops in business :-)
ReplyDeletetoo much lycra - skyclad is the next option....
ReplyDelete'jackinge' now there's a login!!
Thought about it once or twice mate. Don't think the kaytoos are quite ready for it though. 'Jackinge' is the ratio of pit zips to brain cells ;-)
ReplyDeletes'pose they'd say - 'woad you look at that...!!!!' har har har lol = )
ReplyDeleteor put it down to inhaling all that Nickwax
ReplyDeleteultra minimalist. Excellent. I'm Envious. However light I want to go I always end up with lots of gear for emergencies. But one day I'll give it a try; just a whilstle and a fleece.
ReplyDeleteAs bigdogblog says skyclad is the next obvious move or perhaps how about skin coloured modesty shorts
I wouldn't want to put folk off their lunch, Woozle!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you use when you encounter gorsey areas and stoney tracks? I'd be very grateful for any barefoot (on Dartmoor) advice you could give me. Enjoyed your articles in the West Devon Diary by the way!Thank you, Liz
ReplyDeleteHi Liz,
ReplyDeleteThere are usually small patches of spikey bits but as long as they're small, they don't seem to hurt. If I'm planning running sections on tracks I'll take my Vibram KSO Treks for the worst of it. Usually even the knobbliest of tracks have softer bits at the side so I use these where possible.
My favourite bf run so far goes from Cox Tor car park, up to the trig point, down to Wedlake enclosure, follow to the end then over towawds the Walkham to pick up the track to Langstone Moor stone circle. Return to Roos Tor, Beckamoor Pooland back down to the car park.
Glad you enjoy the articles!
